A man is now charged with attempted murder after police say he fired multiple shots at officers.
Spartanburg Police Department officers responded Monday to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Ridgedale Drive and Ammons Road, Maj. Art Littlejohn said.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they heard shots being fired, Littlejohn said.
He said officers got back into their vehicles as they heard the shots get closer. A total of three different clusters of rounds were fired from the suspect at the officers, according to Littlejohn.
Littlejohn said officers found Jason Goforth, who was determined to be the shooter. Littljohn said Goforth had a .22 caliber rifle on him and spent ammunition was found on the ground nearby.
Goforth was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, assault and battery high and aggravated, possession of ammunition by a violent felon and breach of peace.
No officers were injured.
