Randa Massey told police she was walking to a nearby mini-mart when a van approached her from behind. Two men grabbed her by the waist and arms and attempted to pull her inside of an open van door.

She was able to successfully escape after throwing an elbow at one of the suspects, hitting him in the face. He and two others fled the area by the van.

Taylor turned himself in to police on July 28.

Officials with the Solicitor's Office said while probable cause was sufficient to obtain arrest warrants for Taylor, further investigation of the incident revealed Taylor was elsewhere during the time of the attempted abduction.

MBPD were able to verify this through surveillance tapes.

The investigation into this attempted kidnapping is ongoing.

Woman nearly kidnapped in Myrtle Beach

A Greene County woman says her vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC nearly turned into a nightmare after three men tried to kidnap her. Luckily, 20 year-old Randa Massey was able to fight off her attackers.

“It’s hard to imagine what they were going to do to me,” the North Greene High School graduate said.

Massey and her family traveled to Myrtle Beach Sunday for their annual summer vacation. Massey says she was walking back from the store near her family’s hotel around 4:30 pm Wednesday when three men pulled up in a van.

“It happened so fast,” Massey said. “I think their intentions were to just grab me in and take me away and keep going.”

According to the police report filed with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, two men jumped out of the van, grabbed the 20 year-old by her waist and arm and tried to drag her into the van. Massey says she somehow managed to elbow one of the men in the face and escape.

“I just can’t put into words how grateful I am,” her relieved mother Jill Massey said. “I have two other boys. She’s my only daughter.”

Myrtle Beach police have since released a composite sketch of one of the suspects. Massey described the van used in the attack to police as pale blue with a lot of rust spots.

The location of the failed attack at S. 22nd Avenue and S. Ocean Boulevard gives Massey chills.

Massey is talking about the disappearance of 17 year-old Brittanee Drexel. In April 2009, the upstate New York teen went missing near the same location. Although Massey believes the two cases are linked, Myrtle Beach police don’t think so.

“We do have the same group of investigators that worked the Drexel case looking into this one,” Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes said in a news release Friday. “At this time we are not saying that the cases are related, however we must exercise due diligence and properly review the cases and see if there are any similarities. As of now the only facts that are related are the (approximate location) and the fact that they are both younger woman.

Investigators have taken a fresh look at unsolved crimes targeting two other women as new developments surface in Brittanee Drexel’s presumed slaying.

The FBI recently revealed in court they suspect Drexel, 17, was taken from Myrtle Beach in April 2009 and held in McClellanville where she was raped and shot. The vacationing New York teenager’s body was discarded in an alligator pit, an agent said, citing a “jailhouse confession.” A father and a son from the town were alleged to have played roles in Drexel’s demise.

With that new insight based on witness accounts, and with other evidence they have gathered, investigators are reconsidering possible links between Drexel’s disappearance, the attempted abduction of a Myrtle Beach woman a year later and the 1998 slaying of Shannon McConaughey, 19, whose body was found in Awendaw.

In each case, authorities have developed suspects from the same McClellanville family, but none of them have been successfully prosecuted.

A jailhouse informant told the FBI that Timothy Shaun Taylor, now 43, shot Drexel after his son, Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor, now 25, sexually assaulted her at a home in the northeastern Charleston County town. Her body was never found, and nobody has been charged in her death.

The elder Taylor was questioned about the case after his arrest in July 2010, when he was accused of trying to pull a 20-year-old woman into a van in Myrtle Beach, just blocks from the hotel where Drexel was last seen. He insisted that he was elsewhere at the time of that crime, and police told news media that surveillance video helped corroborate his account. Prosecutors eventually dropped the charges.

Capt. David Knipes of the Myrtle Beach Police Department, which probed that case and has worked with the FBI on Drexel’s disappearance, said the agency continues to recheck the details and facts of the 2010 kidnapping attempt.

“As part of our investigation we have looked at this case again,” he said. “However, we are not in a position to provide further details.”

After the development in Drexel’s case was revealed last week by The Post and Courier, the elder Taylor continued to deflect all accusations in the disappearance and in the Myrtle Beach abduction attempt, his attorney, Steve Schmutz of Charleston, said Monday.

Federal prosecutors have charged the younger Taylor in connection with an unrelated robbery in hopes of forcing his testimony against his father, a maneuver that Schmutz called “an unusual reach.”

The attorney said his client expects any case against him to falter, just as the other did. Schmutz stressed that the elder Taylor had been cleared of wrongdoing in the Myrtle Beach case.

“Of course, he denies any involvement” in the Drexel case, Schmutz said. “The fact of the matter is the result will be the same — no matter how many times it’s looked at.”

But Drexel’s father, Chad Drexel, wrote Monday on Facebook that more evidence pointing to his daughter’s killers will emerge, including her DNA that was discovered in a key place.

But he declined to discuss specifics with The Post and Courier, fearing further public details would compromise the FBI’s probe.

“This is only the beginning!” he wrote. “There is a ton more evidence and horrible info we would like the public ... (to) be aware of for their safety.”

The elder Taylor’s brother, Randall Keith Taylor, 48, was one of five men arrested in McConaughey’s killing.

The St. Stephen woman was last seen at a North Charleston restaurant in January 1998. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged that Randall Taylor raped and shot her and that the other men helped dispose of her body. Her car was burned in the woods near McClellanville. Her body was found months later.

Detectives arrested Randall Taylor and the four others in 2001, but prosecutors dropped the murder charges, citing insufficient evidence.

“We have looked at that case a number of times during the course of assisting the Brittanee Drexel investigation,” Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said Monday. “We have not made many advances, but we have continued to revisit it as the Drexel case has unfolded.”

Since his release, Randall Taylor has been arrested only on misdemeanor charges, including giving false information to the police.

One of his former co-defendants in McConaughey’s death, Harry James Rivers, 45, was sentenced in 2012 to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.

A senior Iranian cleric and member of parliament has just dropped a bombshell.

He is claiming that the Obama administration, as part of negotiating during the Iran Deal, granted U.S. citizenship to 2500 Iranians including family members of government officials.

Hojjat al-Islam Mojtaba Zolnour, who is chairman of Iran’s parliamentary nuclear committee and a member of its national security and foreign affairs committee, made the allegations during an interview with the country’s Etemad newspaper, cited by the country’s Fars News agency.

He claimed it was done as a favor to senior Iranian officials linked to President Hassan Rouhani, and he alleged the move sparked a competition among Iranian officials over whose children would benefit from the scheme.

Several children of current and former Iranian officials live in the United States, including Ali Fereydoun, whose father is brother and special aide of President Hassan Rouhan, and Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, whose father Ali Larijani is speaker of parliament.

While Zolnour did not mention any names, he obviously was trying to make a political point.

“When Obama, during the negotiations about the JCPOA, decided to do a favor to these men, he granted citizenship to 2,500 Iranians and some officials started a competition over whose children could be part of these 2,500 Iranians,” he claimed.

“If today these Iranians get deported from America, it will become clear who is complicit and sells the national interest like he is selling candies to America.”

The conservative Zolnour, who is in Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s inner circle, added: “It should be stated exactly which children of which authorities live in the United States and have received citizenship or residency.”

He said while some were studying in the U.S. others were working in the U.S. “against our national interests.”

It’s not clear who he’s talking about and whether he’s confusing a green card with citizenship. And one has to take his political objective into account.

But it obviously raises a concerning question.

There have been so many things hidden from the public about the Iran Deal if this was one more thing given up in bribe, it wouldn’t be hard to believe.

And it shouldn’t be hard to track this down with a little government and Congressional investigation.

The problem, of course, too many Obama holdovers in places like the State Department so you can’t get a straight answer.

Asked about the cleric’s claim, a State Department spokesperson said: “We’re not going to comment on every statement by an Iranian official.”

Fox News analyst and former Obama State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf was dubious of the Iranian official’s allegation. “This sounds like totally made up BS,” she said.

The Department of Homeland Security declined to comment. A representative for Obama Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also could not be reached for comment.

This would certainly anger Republicans, especially in the wake of the pallets of cash, sanctions relief and giving access to the U.S. financial system that has already been revealed about the deal.

And in Iran, they could fuel resentment toward Tehran’s elite.

“Many ordinary Iranians are surprised and feel betrayed that children of the regime officials live and work in the U.S.,” Saeed Ghasseminejad, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington-based research institute, told Fox News. “The regime officials chant death to America but send their children to the U.S., away from the hell they have created in Iran over the past four decades.”

Ghasseminejad said some Iranians have called for their deportation from America: “Iranians don’t understand why the U.S. government allows the offspring of the regime officials to live in the U.S., while the U.S. has introduced a travel ban for ordinary Iranian citizens and many Americans are imprisoned in Iran. That is why many Iranians on social media have been urging the U.S. government to deport the children of the regime officials.”

The protests have hit the country hard as the economy has continued to crater. The Iran Deal was expected to help the country but the people in the street didn’t feel the difference. And now pulling out of the Iran Deal has facilitated a drop in the value of the rial against the dollar. And as a result of pulling out of the deal, international firms and oil companies have dropped deals with Iran.

There’s a lot of jockeying for power behind the scenes here.

But it could be interesting if it’s the failure of the Iran Deal that actually deals the final blow to the Islamists and it brings the secularists back.

Three years after allegedly killing a South Carolina teen and dumping her body, a man was caught Saturday on a barge off Ossabaw Island southeast of Savannah.

The fifth suspect in the 1998 slaying of the 19-year-old looked surprised when U.S. Coast Guard officers from Tybee Island boarded the barge he worked on and detained him.

Jacob Taylor, 46, was arrested later on suspicion of murder and taken to Chatham County jail.

The five men are accused of shooting Shannon McConaughey of St. Stephen, S.C., and dumping her body in the woods.

She was last seen leaving the Cracker Barrel restaurant in North Charleston after eating with friends in her Amway sales group, according to newspaper reports.

The case remained unsolved for three years until Thursday when more than 50 Charleston County sheriff's deputies made covert raids at five houses and took four suspects into custody.

Authorities learned the fifth suspect was on a barge. A Coast Guard helicopter from Savannah had identified the barge Friday, allowing officials to track the vessel.

Charleston County detectives were going to wait until the barge entered South Carolina waters, but feared Taylor may have heard of the arrests of the other four suspects, so they wanted to act quickly, Madison said.
