MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Thursday marks 10 years since 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel vanished while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.
No arrests have been made, but the FBI and Myrtle Beach police said they’re not giving up on the case.
“We’re still hopefull that we’ll solve this case,” Don Woods, with the FBI, said.
Investigators said even though it’s been a decade since Drexel’s disappearance, the case has never gone cold.
“We’re still receiving leads in this case consistently. We’re still receiving credible leads in the case that help us make positive steps and progress the case forward, so we’re heading in the right direction,” Woods said.
But investigators said the ten-year-old case comes with its challenges.
“There are difficulties that present themselves as far as evidence decaying, technical and electronic evidence that becomes deleted, memories fade from people and people with information die,” Woods said.
WMBF News asked if there are any persons of interest in the case.
“We’re not going to rule anybody in or rule anybody out at this point, we just have a universe of information we’re working with to try to develop subjects. We need to bring them to justice,” Woods said.
In 2016, investigators said they believed Drexel was dead after hearing from an FBI informant that she was fed to alligators.
“I’m not going to comment or offer distinctions on what we think is credible now, and not so much now, but we always take that information and re-evaluate it, and that’s one of those pieces we’re still looking at as any information in this case,” Woods said.
But since day one of this case, investigators have asked for the public’s help and the continue to do so.
“Somebody or more than one person has information that can help us in this investigation. We need the public’s help,” Woods said.
“We’re committed to working with the FBI and this case is not closed. We’re committed to continue this investigation,” Myrtle Beach Police Cpl. Tom Vest said.
