The man convicted in a high-profile disappearance case in Horry County will soon go before South Carolina’s highest court.
Online records show a hearing for Sidney Moorer will take place May 17 before the South Carolina Supreme Court in connection to his obstruction of justice charge.
Moorer was found guilty in Sept. 2017 of obstruction of justice in connection to Heather Elvis’ disappearance.
Elvis was last seen or heard from on Dec. 18, 2013, and her body has never been found.

During Moorer’s trial, Sgt. Danny Furr testified that when he and Moorer spoke on the phone on Dec. 19, 2013, Moorer changed his story about when he last spoke to Elvis and failed to mention that he had called her from a payphone and spoke to her more than once.
He and his legal team filed an appeal in December 2020 to the South Carolina Supreme Court, looking to acquit him on the obstruction of justice charge - arguing the trial judge denied Moorer’s directed verdict motion.
The South Carolina Court of Appeals denied a similar appeal earlier that year, saying the trial court did not err because there was enough evidence to prove Moorer’s guilt.
Moorer was also convicted of kidnapping Elvis during a separate trial in September 2019. His wife Tammy was also convicted on kidnapping charges in October 2018. The two are both currently serving 30-year prison sentences.
Moorer is also appealing his kidnapping conviction. A hearing in the S.C. Court of Appeals is set for April 13.
In the legal brief, Moorer claims that the conviction should be overturned because the court erred in reversing its decision to try the case in Georgetown County and instead transferred it back to Horry County where “social media saturation pervaded the case” and he couldn’t receive a fair trial. Documents also claim that the court erred in denying Moorer’s motion for a directed verdict.
The brief goes on to state the court made a mistake in qualifying Grant Fredericks as an expert in forensic video analysis. Fredericks testified about surveillance video showing a truck driving to and from Peachtree Landing where Elvis’ car was found. The brief states that Fredericks made “flawed conclusions” about seeing Moorer’s truck driving and excluded all other vehicles based on headlight patterns.
Tammy Moorer is also appealing her kidnapping conviction but a decision has not been made in that case.
Daniel Printz maybe a serial killer....
A federal search warrant unsealed Tuesday has provided new details in the case of a Rutherford County man currently in jail on charges linked to the disappearance of a South Carolina woman last year.
The man, Daniel Printz, was arrested in September on weapons and auto theft charges.
Detectives began investigating Printz after a Greenville County, South Carolina woman went missing on August 27, 2021.
As the investigation has unfolded over the past six months, according to the search warrant, Printz has been linked to a missing woman from Charlotte.
The warrant also said Printz acknowledged committing multiple murders, referring to “bodies” in a hypothetical answer he gave state and federal investigators during an October 2021 interview.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — With secret recordings and other evidence, prosecutors are pledging to show how four men were united behind a wild plot to kidnap Michigan’s governor in response to her aggressive steps to slow down Covid-19 during the early months of the pandemic.
Jury selection began Tuesday for a trial that could last more than a month in federal court in western Michigan, with U.S. District Court Judge Robert Jonker telling prospective jurors: “This isn’t your average criminal case” because of the extraordinary allegations of a plot against an elected official.
Jonker emphasized that prospective jurors must put aside any personal feelings about politics, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her administration’s response to Covid-19 to fairly hear the case, or they cannot serve. Two men were dismissed after the judge’s questions revealed a dislike of the Democratic governor, with one man saying, “I would probably be pretty biased.”

A few other people were dismissed due to job or home conflicts, including a nurse who worked throughout the pandemic. The woman said she finally has a trip planned and “I really want to go on vacation.” A man who said he has followed news coverage of the case intensely was let go after saying, “I think they’re guilty.”
In 2020, Whitmer was trading taunts with then-President Donald Trump over his administration’s response to Covid-19. Her critics, meanwhile, were regularly protesting at the Michigan Capitol, clogging streets around the statehouse and legally carrying semi-automatic rifles into the building.
During that turbulent time, when stay-home orders were in place and the economy was restricted, Adam Fox, Brandon Caserta, Barry Croft Jr. and Daniel Harris were coming up with a plot to snatch Whitmer, prosecutors say.
They’re accused of taking critical steps over several months, including secret messaging, gun drills in the woods and a night drive to northern Michigan to scout her second home and figure out how to blow up a bridge.
