Pilot Forgets to Fly

ATCO here. My +20 years of experience tells me that in most of the emergencies you should always give vectors to the pilot. Information like “hey, all RWYs clear, land in any of them…” don’t help at all. The emergency and the workload in the cockpit will take away any sense of location within the airspace of the airfield. They need to follow clear and simple instructions like “climb xxx feet, fly heading xxx”. Nothing more, nothing else. When aligned with the runway make them look outside. Make the management of the situation as easy as possible from the navigation point of view. Great video and analysis once again, Kelsey.
